INDEPENDENT COMMISSIONING AGENT

An unbiased perspective of the commissioning process.

The purpose of an independent commissioning agent (ICA), also known as independent commissioning authority, is to provide an equitable perspective of the commissioning process. The ICA reports directly to the owner and is independent of the design team. The principal objective of an ICA is to provide support to the project team in conducting the commissioning of the system in order to ensure that the building functions in a safe and efficient manner.

EMergy Independent Commissioning Agent forms a valuable part of the project by ensuring that the building meets the energy goals for which it was designed to protect occupant health, provide comfort and improve building efficiency. The ICA must oversee and lead the commissioning process and ensure that it is executed as per the owner’s requirements.

The Independent Commissioning Agent is also a critical component of several green building rating systems, including LEED, i.e. LEED commissioning agent, and Abu Dhabi UPC Estidama, where fundamental commissioning is a mandatory credit for certification.
